After nearly two years’ planning, Vermont Independent Media (VIM),
with the generosity of its friends in Windham County, the volunteer
efforts of its writers, editors, photographers, artists and mentors,
and the support of local advertisers, has launched both of its programs:
The Commons newspaper and the Media
Mentoring Project (MMP).
VIM’s vision and intent was and is to counter the trend to ever-larger
media consolidation and control over locally produced and owned small
newspapers and other community media. VIM’s independence permits
it to operate right at the grassroots level, encouraging people from
all over Windham County to participate in reporting and debating
their community’s news and issues. Learn how through the Media
Mentoring Project and see the results in The Commons!
The newspaper will be published the first Thursday of the month.
VIM news and progress can be tracked on the web site.
