Media Mentoring Project

Vermont Independent Media is committed to community journalism—citizens who are not only media savvy, but who also write clearly about the events that surround them and shape their lives. To that end, VIM has initiated the Media Mentoring Project (MMP), offering free journalism classes to communities in Windham County. Every month VIM offers workshops on subjects such as the art of the interview, a mock day in the newsroom, distinctions between opinion writing, reporting and press releases, journalism ethics and other topics.

VIM’s roster of volunteer professional writers will work individually with anyone who wants to develop their writing skills. Whether you want to write for The Commons or any other publication, VIM’s writers will teach you about different kinds of writing and help you establish a clear and concise writing style. Our writing mentors can be contacted at any time through info@commonsnews.org. All Media Mentoring workshops and classes are free and open to all.

Class sessions will be scheduled at other Windham County locations upon request.

For more information about the program, please check the MMP Schedule or call us at 802-348-7701. You can also write to Vermont Independent Media at P.O. Box 1212, Brattleboro, VT 05302.
