Grace Cottage Hospital sponsors 5K race and community health fair

TOWNSHEND — Saturday, May 14, promises to be a fun-filled day in Townshend, starting with the “Spring Into Health” 5K Run at 8:30 a.m., and followed by the free Community Health Fair from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Organized by Grace Cottage Hospital, these events will be held at Leland & Gray Union Middle/High School and on the Townshend Common, rain or shine.

The “Spring Into Health” 5K Run starts on the Townshend Common and goes up Route 35 and back, ending back at the Townshend Common. Healthy snacks and water will be available at the finish line.

Runners/walkers/strollers can register online at www.gracecottage.org/events. Last year, the ages of participants ranged from one-month-old to 98-years-old. The 5K registration fee is $15 for adults and $10 for those 13 and under. The fee includes a cool, technical (not cotton) t-shirt for the first 150 entrants, featuring a new logo designed by Leland & Gray student Sarah Dickson.

After the 5K, stop by the free, fun and informative Community Health Fair, The events offers several free health tests (glaucoma, blood pressure, blood sugar, and more), outdoor activities including an inflatable obstacle course and a climbing wall, plus information from over 40 area nonprofit health, safety and social service organizations. The Red Cross will hold a blood drive 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Leland & Gray, in conjunction with this event.
