BRATTLEBORO — The Brattleboro Recreation & Parks Department will offer the following programs in June. To register, or to learn more about the offerings, call the Recreation & Parks Office at 802-254-5808, weekdays from 10 a.m. to noon or 1 to 5 p.m.

• Yoga and pilates: Instructor Cindy Gray offers a series of eight-week classes for yoga and pilates in the Gymnasitics Room at the Gibson-Aiken Center.

Yoga classes begin on June 20 and meet Mondays and Wednesday at 12:10-1:10 p.m. Pilates classes begin on June 22, and are held on Tuesdays at 12:10-1:10 p.m.

A combination yoga/pilates class begins on June 24 and will be held on Fridays from 12:10-1:10 p.m.

The cost for yoga and pilates is $50 for one class per week, $60 for two classes per week, $75 for three classes a week, and $90 for four classes a week. Add $20 for non-residents and $10 for drop-ins. Prices are based on an eight-week session.

• Kickboxing: A kickboxing conditioning class begins on July 6 at the Gibson-Aiken Center. Designed for those 18 and older and led by Cyndy Gray, it combines kick box skills with athletic conditioning for an intense workout.

Classes will be offered two days a week, Saturdays from 9-10 a.m. and/or Wednesdays from 6-7:15 p.m. The cost is $40 for one class a week, $60 for two classes. Add $20 for non-residents. Participants in Gray's noontime yoga and pilates classes will receive a $10 a month discount.

• Swimming lessons: Registration will take place at Living Memorial Park Swimming Pool. Brattleboro residents may register on Saturday, June 18, from 9 a.m. to noon, or on Thursday, June 23, from 9 a.m. to noon.  Non-residents may register on Friday, June 24, from 9 a.m. to noon.  Swim lessons are primarily for Brattleboro residents and non-residents will be accepted if space is available.

Fees are $30 for Brattleboro residents and $45 for non-residents, with $5 of the fee going to the Red Cross.

The Red Cross has developed a new system for lessons, which is considerably different than lesson criteria in past years. Therefore, each child must be tested before being placed in a class and should be prepared to go in the pool at registration.

If your child has a Red Cross Card from last summer, bring it to registration, which takes place rain or shine.  To be eligible for swim lessons, children must be 3 by June 18. There will be three sessions offered:  Session 1: June 27-July 8, Session 2: July 11-22, and Session 3: July 25-Aug. 5.

• Free afternoon fun:  An afternoon play period, featuring kick ball, whiffle ball, sprout tag, and more, will be offered Mondays through Thursdays, June 20-30, from 2:30-3:30 p.m., at the Lower Field at Living Memorial Park. All children are welcome, and no registration is needed for this free program.
