Write Action Literary Contest winners announced

BRATTLEBORO — At the Write Action picnic on Aug. 21, the winners of the nonprofit organization's 2011 prose and poetry contests were announced and invited to read their entries.

First prize in the poetry contest went to Bill Devlin for “The Time Machine,” second prize to Andy Burrows for “A Farm in Winter,” and third prize to Dianalee Velie for “How Did I Get Here?”

First prize in the prose contest went to Marty Cain for “Wranglin' Max.”

Cain also won first prize in the Youth Category in 2009.

Second prize went to Bruce Hesselbach for “The House of Arches,” and third prize to Julia Shipley for “The Road to Town.”

There was also one winner in the Youth Category this year: Kira Hauptman for her poem “Destiny.”

Winners received gift certificates to Everyone's Books. The judging was done anonymously by published authors.

Winners will also be reading at the Write Action open reading at the Literary Festival, on the evening of Saturday, Oct. 15.
