BEEC presents annual ‘Forest of Mystery’

WEST BRATTLEBORO — Bonnyvale Environmental Education Center is getting ready for its annual theatrical performance, the Forest of Mystery.

Each fall, audiences are enchanted by the stories that appear before them while walking Bonnyvale's forest trails by lamplight.

This year's Forest of Mystery will take place Friday, Oct. 21 and Saturday, Oct. 22, with a rain date of Oct 23. The hour-long journey begins every 15 minutes between 6:15 and 8:30 p.m.

The Deer and The Shadow, written and directed by Michael Nethercott, is based on the old Irish myth of Sive (Sadbhe), a maiden placed under a dark enchantment by the Shadow Man. The performance features a cast of 30 actors and musicians.

In addition to his playwriting, Nethercott has published mystery and supernatural stories in numerous mystery and science fiction magazines and anthologies. He has won the Black Orchid Novella Award for traditional mystery writing.

Call 802-257-5785 for reservations. Groups move through the forest every 15 minutes starting at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, and 6:15 p.m.on Saturday night. Performances are not recommended for children younger than 6 years. For BEEC members, tickets are $10 for adults and $6 children. For non-members, the cost is $12 for adults and $8 for children.
