Alternatives to nuclear power ‘kill people every day’

BRATTLEBORO — RE: “Considering the cycle of nuclear fuel” [Viewpoint, Oct. 26].

Wow, biased much?

Bill Pearson seems to have forgotten that nuclear power, as dangerous as he makes it seem, is one of the safest power sources we have.

Coal, oil, natural gas - these are all hundreds of times more dangerous than nuclear power. They kill people every day, not just when there's a problem. During normal operation, every day, the main power source of our country kills people at rates far worse than Chernobyl did.

The alternatives - solar, wind, hydro - are often quite bad for the environment, especially when you consider the damage done by hydro, the short lifespan of solar, and the not-in-my-backyard attitude springing up around wind.
