Morningside board seeks new members

BRATTLEBORO — Morningside is the only homeless shelter in southeastern Vermont to specialize in housing placement with ongoing staff support and life-skills development for both families and individuals.

The Morningside Shelter board of directors is inviting members of the community to apply to join the Board and help the facility meet its mission to help eliminate the condition of homelessness by providing shelter, outreach, referral, intervention, and transitional housing services.

The board meets monthly to review and approve budgetary, personnel, and mission-related matters. Members also plan fundraising activities and community outreach events.

For more than 30 years, Morningside has developed the knowledge, systems, and institutional capacity to effectively assist homeless families and individuals in Windham County in securing and successfully maintaining stable housing.

The shelter offers an extended stay, and its staff works with area nonprofit and public agencies to help people connect to a wide range of services.

These services include job training and placement, medical and mental health treatment, family and substance-abuse counseling, budget management, nutrition, health education, parenting and child-care services, and assistance in identifying and qualifying for subsidized housing opportunities.
