Seminars offer a jump-start for young adults seeking career direction, jobs

BRATTLEBORO — If you are a recent college graduate, are graduating soon, or are a young adult seeking a job, you should be aware of two upcoming seminars to help jump-start your career.

Scheduled during the Christmas holiday week, they will be held at the Marlboro Graduate Center, 29 Vernon St.

On Tuesday, Dec. 27, from 3-6 p.m., national certified career counselor Allyson Villars, MS, will present “Setting or Confirming a Direction.” At this three-hour session, Villars will help the participants learn how to combine their priorities including interests, skills, talents and personality to help determine their career direction. This workshop will provide a chance to develop a realistic and practical goal for the participants' future work.

On Wednesday, December 28, Villars will present “Making Your Job Hunt Successful,” a three-hour session designed to help find a foolproof method to identify opportunities and openings before they hit the job classified want ads. At this workshop, she will help participants create their personalized formula to get the job they want. She will also offer tested tips for applications, resumes, cover letters, interviewing, and the screening of prospective employers.

Each of these two seminars will set young adults on their way to finding the right job while distinguishing themselves in the process. Both are open to any college student, graduate, or young adult (18-34) looking for a job or career. Participants can sign up for one or both of the workshops which include a one-on-one follow-up meeting to fine tune next steps. This one-hour session will be scheduled at the convenience of the participant, in person, or by phone or Skype.

Villars is a board-certified career counselor with 30 years of experience in helping people discover their futures. Until recently, she was executive director of Youth Services of Windham County, and before that was a designer and developer of career centers at four universities.

Fees for the workshops which, again, include a one-hour follow-up person-to-person meeting are $100 each, or people can partake in both successive day workshops for $150. To register, call 802-254-8604, or email [email protected].
