Forest Service introduces Junior Snow Ranger program at Mount Snow

DOVER — On Friday, Feb. 10, Forest Service employees from the Green Mountain National Forest in Vermont will take to the slopes of local ski areas, including Mount Snow resort, to share a new Junior Snow Ranger Activity booklet with local school children.

The activity book, designed for children in elementary school, particularly for fourth- and fifth-graders, has 16 pages of fun-filled activities that highlight the joy of winter fun.

Children receive a card, a patch, and a certificate once they have completed the activities.

Outdoor and indoor activities include personal safety, wildlife, winter ecology, snow science, and recreation.

The booklets also highlight the role of a real snow ranger, the use of rescue dogs, and the continued importance of wildfire prevention during the winter.

Forest Service employees will also make The Junior Snow Ranger activity books available at all the Green Mountain National Forest offices (Middlebury, Manchester, Rochester, and Rutland) in Vermont. Once completed, children can return their books to the office, or mail them in, and receive and card, patch, and certificate of completion.
