Documentary examines global resurgence of the electric car

Part of Independent Lens series at BMAC

BRATTLEBORO — On Thursday, March 8, at 7:30 p.m., the Brattleboro Museum & Art Center (BMAC), in partnership with Vermont Public Television and Brattleboro Community Television, presents a free screening of the widely acclaimed documentary Revenge of the Electric Car, which chronicles the story of the global resurgence of electric cars.

The screening will take place at BMAC and will be followed by a discussion with Daniel Hoviss, electric car enthusiast and energy coordinator for the town of Putney.

At 7 p.m., prior to the film screening, Hoviss will lead a show-and-tell of several electric vehicles in the BMAC parking lot.

Revenge of the Electric Car is being shown as part of Community Cinema, a monthly series at BMAC featuring documentary films from the Emmy Award-winning PBS program Independent Lens.

The second Thursday of every month, BMAC, in partnership with Vermont Public Television and Brattleboro Community Television, and with support from the Vermont Humanities Council and the National Endowment for the Humanities, hosts a free public screening of a cutting-edge documentary film soon to be aired on PBS.

Screenings are accompanied by community-based discussions and events that join citizens, organizations, and public television stations in dialogue and action around important social issues.

By 2006, thousands of new electric cars were purposely destroyed by the same car companies that built them. Today, the electric car is back with a vengeance.

With almost every major car maker now jumping to produce new electric models, Revenge of the Electric Car follows the race to be the first and the best, and to win the hearts and minds of the public around the world.

Revenge of the Electric Car is narrated by Tim Robbins. The primary cast includes Carlos Ghosn, CEO and president of Renault and Nissan; Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla Motors; Bob Lutz, former Vice Chairman of General Motors; and electric vehicle do-it-yourselfer Greg “Gadget” Abbott.
