Thank you, Putney youth!

PUTNEY — Dear Putney youth: Your generosity in helping the Putney Foodshelf provide healthy food for area people in need is truly incredible.

Every school in Putney is included in this effort.

At Putney Central School, the middle school student council ran a six-week, school-wide food drive, donating more than 71 crates of canned goods to the Foodshelf.

At The Grammar School, a team of girls from came in weekly to sort, organize, and shelve the PCS food drive cans. The Grammar School runs monthly food drives, dropping off crates and bags, with each class taking charge a different month.

At the Greenwood School, the boys picked apples for us at Green Mountain Orchards last fall and a student would help run our Tuesday night hours each week.

At the Putney School, a class looked at our shelves, studied the problems, and offered recipes to our recipients based on current offerings.

Finally, at Landmark College, students donated their unused food credits from their first semester, giving us huge buying power in keeping our shelves stocked for our neighbors who struggle.

Neighbors helping neighbors, and what amazing neighbors you are!

The Putney Foodshelf is a network partner with the Vermont Foodbank, paying annual member fees for the food we order. We are a group of savvy shoppers and find good deals on the food we buy elsewhere. We have a tight budget, but we are well-supported. The work of our town, our local businesses, our individuals, and our youth is tremendously appreciated.

A big thank-you to everyone who has helped this season, from the Putney Foodshelf!
