Townshend Common Farmers’ Market sponsors student art contest

TOWNSHEND — The Townshend Common Farmers' Market is sponsoring a poster art contest open to all students in grades 7-12 in the Leland & Gray School District, as well as the towns of Athens and Grafton. Home-school students from these towns in that age range are also welcome to participate.

The winning poster design will be used for the Townshend Common Farmers' Market 2012 season. It will be seen and displayed throughout the greater Townshend area to promote the market.

The winning artist will receive a $100 cash prize.

All poster entries will be displayed at the market's opening day on June 7. All entries must be received by May 1, and should be original artwork incorporating themes of local food, community, agriculture, and Vermont's summer harvest.

Finished poster size should be a maximum of 11 x 17 inches. Judging will be done in the first two weeks of May and the winner will be announced on May 15.

The Townshend Common Farmers' Market, a project of Post Oil Solutions, operates at the intersection of Route 30 and Route 35. EBT/SNAP cards and Farm to Family coupons are welcome.

The market will be open rain or shine weekly on Thursdays from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. through Oct. 11. The market will move inside int0 the white church on the Common during inclement weather.
