New England Youth Theatre to hold auditions for its fall, holiday productions

BRATTLEBORO — New England Youth Theatre will hold auditions for “Romeo and Juliet” and “Annie” in June.

“Romeo and Juliet” auditions will be held on Monday, June 11, from 4 to 6 p.m. The show will rehearse beginning Tuesday, Sept. 4. Performances will be held Oct. 12-21.

Director Peter Gould said, “This will be a very emotional, accurate, demanding production - an ensemble cast of mixed ages, 12 to 18. It will be a challenging senior production, but with ample important roles for younger actors, as well."

Those who wish to audition are asked to prepare a 1- to 2-minute Shakespeare monologue.

“Annie” auditions will be held on Tuesday, June 12, from 4 to 6:30 p.m., with callbacks the following day from 4 to 6:30 p.m. The show will rehearse three to four days a week, beginning on Oct. 22. Performances will be held Dec. 6-16. Rebecca Waxman will direct, Becky Graber will be musical director, and Jennifer Moyse will be the choreographer.

Those between the ages of 9 and 19 who would like to audition are asked to prepare 16 bars of a musical theater song and bring the music with them. They should wear clothes that they can dance in and make sure their hair is out of their face. Scenes from the show will be available in the NEYT office to practice reading before the auditions.

These are both programs of New England Youth Theatre and there is a cost to participate. Financial aid is available and forms are available in the NEYT office.
