State rep.: Vote early, and vote for White

PUTNEY — In this election year, early voting for the Vermont primary starts in two weeks.

Beginning on July 16, voters can fulfill their civic duty and participate in our electoral process as easily as requesting a ballot from one's town clerk and mailing it in.

If you're not registered to vote in Vermont, you have until Aug. 22 to vote in the Aug. 28 primary and until Oct.31 to vote in the general election.

I ask Windham County voters to join me in voting for Jeanette White for Windham County State Senator in the Democratic Party primary.

In working with Jeanette in the legislature (and carpooling with her to Montpelier), I've learned more than a little about our senior senator which sets her apart from the other candidates:

• Jeanette knows Vermont and Vermonters.

• She listens well.

• She always has both feet on the ground.

• She has the respect of her peers.

• She knows how to get things done.

Now, Jeanette might not get as many headlines or photo ops as others in the statehouse because she's not one for chasing cameras or beating the drum for herself. Jeanette's modest rural roots as the daughter of a grain elevator manager taught her to keep her head down and her hands busy and to get things done - and that's what she does on our behalf, year round.

Early on in my tenure of elected public service, during one of our shared rides to the statehouse, she shared some age-old, sage advice for speaking on matters political:

”Stand up to be seen, speak clearly to be heard, and sit down quickly to be appreciated.”

It's a good example of the wisdom she's accrued, and better advice I've yet to hear.

All this adds up to her being the kind of effective legislator we deserve.

As such, she deserves our votes on Aug. 28.

Vote early, and vote Jeanette White, for Windham County State Senator.
