Main Street Arts offers a variety of classes for fall

SAXTONS RIVER — Main Street Arts community arts center has announced its fall lineup of classes.

Drawing for Beginners with Matthew Peake meets Wednesdays for six weeks through Oct. 24 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Peake will follow the course with a six-week figure drawing class Wednesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m., beginning Nov. 7. The fee for either class is $54 for members and $72 for nonmembers.

Lynn Hoeft will lead two sessions in Beginning Watercolor on Sundays, Oct. 28 and Nov. 4, from 9 a.m. to noon that will explore the fundamentals of materials and methods. The fee is $39 for members and $48 for nonmembers.

She will also lead a workshop The Texture of Autumn Using Colored Pencils on Saturday, Oct. 20, from 9 a.m. to noon, in which participants will re-create the variety of textures found in flora and fauna. The fee is $18 for members and $24 for nonmembers.

Other offerings include a Nature Drawing Study Group on Sundays, Oct. 21 to Nov. 18 from 3 to 5 p.m. for those who need a little structure in order to practice and develop drawing skills. The fee is $25 for members and $30 for non-members.

A Parent and Child Mixed Media workshop with Christina Anderson Sundays from 10 to 11:30 a.m. will focus on a different topic each session, including Oct. 21 (landscape), Nov. 11 (portrait) and Dec. 2 (still life). The fee for each session for a parent/child combination is $10 for members and $13 for nonmembers.

Younger children can enroll in Mary Hepburn's Music and Art class that meets Mondays from 10 to 10:45 a.m. for eight weeks through Nov. 5 to practice simple rhythms, songs, and an art activity. The fee is $36 for members and $48 for nonmembers.

In addition, photography buffs meet the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at FACTv/Channel 8 at the Greater Falls Health Center in Bellows Falls to share and learn all things photographic.

Other classes

Main Street Arts is also offering classes in sign language, autobiography writing, and yoga this fall.

Robyn Weisel will teach Introduction to Sign Language for four weeks beginning Monday, Nov. 26, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The class will teach the basics of the visual-gestural language of communication with the deaf. The fee is $24 for members and $32 for nonmembers.

The autobiography writing workshop will meet for three weeks on Saturdays, Nov. 3 to 17, from 10 a.m. to noon with writer Elayne Clift. The fee is $36 for members and $48 for nonmembers. Clift will help participants explore their own Golden Fleece journey through writing and sharing.

Emily Lisai will be leading a slow-flowing yoga class appropriate for beginner and intermediate practitioners through Dec. 18 on Tuesdays from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. for twelve weeks. The fee is $90 for members and $120 for nonmembers, with a $10 and $12 drop-in rate.
