Queer Castastrophe dance to raise funds for Irene relief

BRATTLEBORO — Queer Catastrophe, a dance party for the LGBTQ community and allies, will be held on Saturday, Oct. 20, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., at American Legion Post 5 on Linden Street. This fall dance party from the Men's Program and Crossroads is supporting Irene relief with all of its raffle proceeds.

Yearly, these dance parties for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and allied communities, have taken place in the spring, summer, and fall. The 2011 fall dance party coincided with the freak Halloween blizzard that took out power everywhere, and while the crowd was much smaller than usual, the party persevered – costumes and all.

This event look back on that success over the snow, and celebrate communities rising above disaster, such as the devastating effects of Tropical Storm Irene and the other catastrophes Brattleboro experienced in 2011.

Many Vermont residents and towns are still struggling to recover from the flooding and damage of Irene. All proceeds from this year's dance raffle will be donated to Irene relief funds.

Come out and dance to music from DJ Jax, and celebrate communities supporting one another. Cash bar, free munchies, and as always – a great raffle. This year, there's just an added incentive to try your chance at winning a prize. Have fun and help out at the same time.

Wear your Halloween costume! Test-run it for any upcoming parties. We'll have prizes for the best costume. (No requirement that it be catastrophe-themed.)
