Why I fight for my job from my state of New Hampshire

RE: “V-Why?” [Letters, Sept. 25]:

I cannot substantiate the claim that the “vast majority” of pro-Vermont Yankee pieces come from New Hampshire, but I can speak for myself on this matter.

I am not from the area and came here solely for employment at VY. I have no ties to the area and was relatively impartial and unbiased when it came to choosing a place to reside.

I initially stayed in Massachusetts, but the more I learned of that state's tax laws and how much red tape existed in daily life (buying and registering guns or cars), I removed it from the list.

This left Vermont and New Hampshire.

Vermont would be a much shorter commute and seemed to make sense, but I experienced several impolite, unprofessional, and offensive experiences with local people and businesses (including the hospital where I took my 7-year-old daughter to be treated), all because of my place of employment.

The choice was obvious and practically made for me.

Living in Jaffrey, N.H., has a few additional upsides as well as supporting my effort to minimize any financial input that would benefit those who feel so inclined to provide their unsolicited opinion (staff at the hospital).

Being almost an hour away reduces the impact on the value of my property if the state of Vermont and the antis actually got their way. It would be very surprising, but I have seen other equally surprising decisions made through the judicial process.

While I live in a tax-free adjacent state, I still have a vested interest in my job and how my tax dollars are spent.

I would think that there would be a much greater movement of support for a company whose average employee income is roughly three times the median for the area, especially considering the current economic state of the county and Vermont.
