Deeply wrong, radically out of step

BRATTLEBORO — The Brattleboro Food Co-op management has hired a law firm - Downs Rachlin Martin, the largest law firm in Vermont - to fight the Co-op employees unionizing with the UFCW (United Food and Commercial Workers) Local 1459.

Perhaps you have heard of “union busting” before.

A strong majority of the employees have signed a petition declaring that unionizing is something they want to do. (Why? isn't the Co-op already a really great place to work? Read “Workers unionize at Brattleboro Food Co-op” [The Commons, Sept. 12] for a history of specific grievances.)

Good luck getting a figure from the powers that be, but I think we can safely estimate that thousands of dollars of shareholder money are being spent on the chimerical effort to quash this more-equitable inevitability.

If you feel this action is deeply wrong and radically out of step with the spirit of our community, go to the Co-op and tell the management how you feel right now.
