DUMMERSTON — The Vermont Theatre Company announces its next production, Ken Ludwig's Moon Over Buffalo, the final weekend in November and the first weekend in December at the Evening Star Grange in Dummerston Center.
Moon Over Buffalo tells the story of a jaded family of traveling actors struggling to make it from the stage to the silver screen. Their big chance comes in Buffalo, where they are performing Cyrano de Bergerac, but when they hear Frank Capra is considering them for roles in his next film and is coming to see their show, everything that possibly could go wrong does.
Ken Ludwig wrote Moon Over Buffalo just a few years after his Lend Me a Tenor won three Tony Awards. The play opened on Broadway in 1995 featuring Carol Burnett in the starring role of Charlotte Hay and Philip Bosco as George Hay. Both Burnett and Bosco were nominated for Tony Awards for their performances.
Michelle Page is the director of VTC's production of Moon Over Buffalo. The cast features Carlton Smith as the fabulous Charlotte Hay; Jim Bombicino as her havoc-wreaking husband, George; Nell Curley as their daughter Rosalind, who has left the stage but returns for a visit with her nervous fiancé, played by Ian Mahoney; James Gelter as Rosalind's ex-boyfriend; Amanda Rink as the young ingénue Eileen; Bruce Holloway as the Hays's lawyer Richard; and Sue Rowell as Charlotte's nearly deaf mother, Ethel.
Mike Shedd is technical director, and Brenda Seitz is stage manager, assisted by Kate Maisner.
Performances are at 7:30 p.m. at the Dummerston Evening Star Grange Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, 7, and 8, with matinees Dec. 2 and 9, at 3 p.m.
Tickets are $12 for general admission and $10 for seniors and students. An American Sign Language interpreted performance takes place Sunday, Dec. 2. Reservations are recommended, and can be made by calling the VTC box office at 802-258-1344, or by writing t[email protected].
