Brattleboro business licenses now up for renewal

BRATTLEBORO — All businesses conducting business within the town of Brattleboro, including non-profit and home businesses, are required to obtain or renew their business license for the year 2013 by Dec. 31.

The cost is $50 for the calendar year.

In addition to capturing business and emergency contact information, the business license serves as the mechanism by which businesses receive an exemption on the first $5,000 of business personal property.

The licensing process is now completely on-line - reducing paper and mailings.

Business license applications and payments must be submitted electronically by going to the town website at http://www.brattleboro.org, clicking on the “Doing Business Here” tab or the “Licenses and Permits” link and following the instructions under the “Business License” tab.

Payment must be made online by credit card, or you can file in person and pay by check or cash at the Listers' office. Computers are available for use, and assistance is also available at the library and at the kiosk outside of the Listers' office in the Municipal Center.

Applications and payments are due to the town by Dec. 31. Any business filing after that date is subject to a fine of up to $25.

Upon completion of the form, and payment, a business license will be emailed to the applicant. In accordance with the town ordinance, the license “shall be conspicuously placed in the licensed premises.”
