Townshend Farmers’ Market to be hosted by West River Community Project this season

TOWNSHEND — Post Oil Solutions and the West River Community Project (WRCP) have announced that, beginning this year, the Townshend Common Farmers' Market will be hosted by the WRCP at its location at the West Townshend Country Store on Route 30.

The market will be moved to the back garden of the Country Store and be held Fridays throughout summer.

Post Oil Solutions founded this community-based market, specializing in locally grown food, in 2008. It had been located on the Townshend Common.

The West River Community Project, composed of several long-term Townshend Common Farmers' Market members, is dedicated to preserving and promoting the West River heritage and ensuring its healthy future full of music, arts, and local agriculture.

The WRCP said it plans to have a processing kitchen, café and local foods market up and running shortly. The thrift shop and new cob-fired pizza/bread oven are open at the West Townshend Vermont Country Store.

Both groups said that, with all the new community activities and interest in local foods happening at the store, moving the market and changing the event to Friday to coordinate with WRCP's well-attended Friday Pizza Night seemed a natural fit.

Post Oil said it plans to continue supporting this transition consistent with its philosophy of launching and backing projects that develop sustainable, resilient, and socially just communities.
