VTC announces auditions for annual ‘Shakespeare-in-the-Park’ production

BRATTLEBORO — The Vermont Theatre Company announces auditions for its 24th annual Shakespeare in the Park production, the romantic comedy “Twelfth Night,” to be directed by Bob Kramsky and performed at Brattleboro's Living Memorial Park the last weekend in June.

Auditions are in the Brattleboro Union High School Auditorium on Monday, March 4, at at 7 p.m.

Auditioning actors should arrive with a prepared comic Shakespearean monologue, and enter through the auditorium doors.

Available roles include:

• Orsino, Duke of Illyria, a romantic, poetic soul obsessed with gaining the love of Lady Olivia, unaware that he, himself, has a secret admirer;

• Viola, secret admirer of Orsino, disguised as a man named Cesario;

• Lady Olivia, countess of high social standing and great beauty, in love with “Cesario”;

• Sebastian, Viola's twin brother;

• Antonio, sea captain friend of Sebastian;

• Sir Toby Belch, Olivia's uncle, full of mischief, fun, and “drink”;

• Sir Andrew Aguecheek, drinking partner of Sir Toby, and a simple innocent;

• Malvolio, Lady Olivia's intense and puritanical steward, who sees himself in a grandiose light, imaging Olivia to love him. He wishes to rise above his rank;

• Maria, Olivia's lady-in-waiting, in love with Sir Toby;

• Feste the wise jester and servant to Olivia. (Must sing and play guitar);

• Fabian, servant to Lady Olivia; and

• Valentine and Curio, gentlemen attendants of the Duke.
