Town to discuss goals for Main Street sidewalk project

BRATTLEBORO — A public meeting to discuss the upcoming Downtown Sidewalk Project will be held on Wednesday, March 6, at 6:15 p.m., in the Selectboard Meeting Room at the Municipal Center, 230 Main St.

This meeting had been scheduled for Feb. 27, but was postponed due to inclement weather. All property owners, residents, and business owners along the Downtown Sidewalk Project route are invited to attend.

The town is planning to install new sidewalks on the east side of Main Street starting at the Gilbert Memorial Bridge and continuing north to Walnut Street.

Some sections of this sidewalk were replaced as part of a recent Vermont Agency of Transportation project. The Downtown Sidewalk Project will replace the sections that have not yet been upgraded. The project is intended to improve safety for pedestrians and create a more attractive Main Street.

The meeting will take up the project's goals and development process. The town is especially interested to provide this forum to seek input on potential design issues.

A meeting to update interested parties on the project status and obtain additional public input regarding the project will be scheduled.

This project is funded by two Federal Highway Administration Transportation Enhancement grants and a local match in the form of a bond.
