Project manager approved for Police/Fire project

BRATTLEBORO — The Brattleboro Selectboard last week named Steve Horton, of Steve Horton Construction Consulting Services in Walpole, N.H., as the project manager for the Police and Fire Facilities Upgrade Project.

The town has budgeted $35,000 for Horton's work.

According to Police Chief Eugene Wrinn and Fire Chief Michael Bucossi, Steve Horton Construction has built or worked on multiple projects in the area such as Hilltop Montessori School in Brattleboro and the new firehouse, courthouse, and YMCA buildings in Keene, N.H.

“We heard nothing but rave reviews,” said Bucossi.

According to Wrinn and Bucossi, the town received seven proposals from companies from Brattleboro to Boston.

Wrinn said that Horton shone in interviews, and demonstrated that he and the town were “on the same page” regarding the project.

Outgoing Selectboard member Dora Bouboulis voted against awarding the contract, saying it felt “premature.”

The Selectboard held a warned special board meeting about the contract prior to the March 13 Representative Town Meeting information session.
