Notes from the world of Windham County restaurants

BRATTLEBORO — • Humble Kitchen is moving - a proposition made much easier by the fact that the restaurant operates out of a food cart.

Operated by Amy Gallant and James Smith, Humble Kitchen serves Vietnamese street food made primarily from local sources. Previously at the Harmony Lot in Brattleboro, Humble Kitchen has begun serving from 47 Flat St., across from the footbridge over the Whetstone Brook.

The move was prompted by the impending construction activities at the Brooks House.

Gallant and Smith are serving from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays.

The Marina in Brattleboro celebrated its 30th anniversary on June 30 with a lobster and clambake and music from the Brattlyn Brothers (Joe Santry, Kevin Storey, Kevin Parry, and Richard Mayer).

The restaurant, which has been reopened for two years after a fire destroyed the original building in 2010, is at 28 Spring Tree Rd. in Brattleboro.

Equilibrium, a business undertaking devoted to creating a “positive lifestyle environment,” including its SuperFresh! Organic Café, is exploring plans to “convert the vacant Dewitt Grocery Building into a key downtown feature and major regional attraction.”

“We feel that this project could become a catalyst for a more robust and comprehensive plan for Flat St. revitalization,” write co-owners Jacob Roberts and Jessica Weston.

A community meeting on Wednesday, July 3 with Denys M. Candy of Community Partners Institute, based in Pittsburgh and Boston, will explore “Creativity and Neighborhood Development: Strategies for Community Investment in Revitalizing the Flat St. Corridor.”

Valley Provisions has opened its newly renovated local foods café at 7 The Square in Bellows Falls.

“Our ingredients are sourced as locally as possible - breads and cheeses from regional artisans, humanely raised meats from nearby farms and the freshest seasonal produce from fields in neighboring towns,” write owners Bonnie North and Krissie and Drew Pelletier on the website.

Summer hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m.
