Circus Smirkus comes to town on July 16, 17

BRATTLEBORO — Circus Smirkus, Vermont's award-winning international youth circus, returns to Brattleboro on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 16 and 17, as part of its 26th annual Big Top Tour.

Performances are 1 and 7 p.m. both days on the grounds of the Vermont Agricultural Business Education Center (VABEC). The show is presented by KidsPLAYce.

For this year's show, “Oz Incorporated,” grab your ruby slippers and click your heels together for a new spin on “The Wizard of Oz” with acrobatic thinking, high-wire hearts, and courageous clowns embarking on an Emerald City adventure.

Every summer, a company of talented Smirkus Troupers, ages 10 to 18, undertake a two-month performance tour of New England.

Backed by coaches, cooks, crew, and musicians, the Troupers perform to sell-out crowds in a 750-seat European-style one-ring Big Top tent. It's a complete immersion in circus life, including rigorous training, daily chores, loading in and loading out the Big Top, and performing in more than 70 shows in 14 towns in just seven weeks.
