Stone Church Arts presents Friesen, Martin on July 12

BELLOWS FALLS — Four-time Grammy-award winning cellist Eugene Friesen teams up with pianist extraordinaire Joel A. Martin on Friday, July 12, at 7:30 p.m., to explore the acoustics of the “Stone Church,” the Immanuel Episcopal Church, at 20 Church St.

The concert, the first of two public events that weekend offered as part of the concurrent Vermont Improvisation Intensive, melds Friesen's cello artistry with Martin's trademark “Jazzical” approach, which draws from the soundscapes of Brazil, Europe, and the United States.

The Vermont Improvisation Intensive (http://bit.ly/1aiyVji), directed by Friesen and held in Bellows Falls, draws professional musical artists from all over the world for three days of study, group exercises, discussion, and improvisation.

Participants from the Intensive present original compositions and improvisations on violin, cello, piano, and voice on Saturday, July 13, at 7:30 p.m., also at the Stone Church.

Friesen and Martin are presented by Stone Church Arts and Sonoterra.
