Co-op’s changes were for the good

DUMMERSTON — RE: “A sad shift of focus” [Letters, July 31]:

I have been a member of the Brattleboro Food Co-op for many years. I will continue to shop at the co-op and support the store as a member.

I think it is a safe assumption that most of us who are or have been in painful and difficult work situations do not resort to gun violence.

I never felt that the co-op did not have the right to change and grow over the years. From my understanding, the store had completely outgrown its previous space.

Having suddenly and inexplicably developed food allergies in the past couple of years, I appreciate the co-op's selection of natural and organic foods and products even more. Yes, you can buy cheese for $15, but the co-op was always known for its artisanal cheeses, back when Henry Tewksbury managed the cheese department.

You can also find many good buys, especially in the bulk department. Food prices have increased so dramatically everywhere that even humble items in chain grocery stores are no longer a bargain.

As to the new structure, let's not also forget that the top two floors have provided much-needed rental housing in Brattleboro.
