New lessons, workshops, classes, ensembles begin at BMC on Sept. 9

BRATTLEBORO — The Brattleboro Music Center announces new and returning workshops, classes, and ensembles this fall. The Music School semester begins Sept. 9, and registration is underway.

Lessons are available for all ages and levels in 19 instruments and voice, taught by 40 dedicated faculty members.

According to the fall program announcement, new workshops include “Conducting for All!” with Hugh Keelan; an early music vocal workshop with Jennifer Hansen; and introduction to new approach techniques with Michelle Liechti. (Enrollment for Liechti's workshop is by donation, with proceeds supporting student financial aid.)

Classes offered for all ages

The BMC's early childhood programs, led by Annie Frelich, include “Movin' Into Music” (ages 1-5), and Little Strummers Ukulele Club (ages 3-5). Heather Sommerlad leads the “new tigers” young beginner string class (ages 5-7).

Alisa Hauser continues the BMC's popular Broadway youth vocal performance Saturday class (ages 7-12); Keith Murphy and Becky Tracy continue to lead youth Celtic classes (ages 9-14).

Teen and adult classes at the BMC include introduction to music theory, introduction to traditional music by ear, Celtic music sessions (intermediate and advanced), and music improvisation.

For youth and adults with mixed abilities, Russell Horton leads a music adventure percussion class, which is handicap-accessible.

A new flute choir, led by Robin Matathias, joins BMC's ensembles this fall. Returning ensembles include prima, junior, and senior orchestras, chamber music ensembles, and celtic music sessions.
