BMAC presents sixth annual LEGO contest, exhibit on Oct. 25-27

BRATTLEBORO — The Brattleboro Museum & Art Center's (BMAC) sixth annual Lego Contest & Exhibit is set for the weekend of Oct. 25.

This year's event is open to Lego enthusiasts of all ages, with prizes awarded for creativity and craftsmanship in seven age groups.

Prizes also will be awarded for best in show, best architectural design, best use of moving parts, best title, best diorama, and best space-themed creation.

In a new offering this year, the school sending in the most submissions will win $200 in art supplies. Every contestant will receive a personalized certificate of participation and four free admission passes to BMAC.

Contest entries must be delivered to the museum on Wednesday, Oct. 23. The opening reception and awards ceremony are Friday, Oct. 25 at 5 p.m., with all entries remaining on display at the museum on Saturday, Oct. 26, and Sunday, Oct. 27, during select hours.

Admission to the Oct. 25 awards ceremony is $4 for adults and teens, $3 for children ages 6-12, and free for children 5 and under.

Admission to the museum on Saturday, Oct. 26 and Sunday, Oct, 27, while Lego entries are on display, is $8 adults, $6 seniors, $4 students, and free for contestants, BMAC members, and children 5 and under.

The Lego Contest & Exhibit, one of BMAC's most popular annual events, has elicited many memorable entries over the years, including a working pinball machine, an amusement park with moving parts, a bust of Abraham Lincoln, a model of Brattleboro's Harris Hill ski jump (complete with spectators), and a pharaoh's tomb with hidden treasure.

“One thing we want to emphasize,” said BMAC Director Danny Lichtenfeld, “is that the contest element is really just for fun. The best part of this event is that it encourages kids - and adults - to put their hands and minds to work in creating something original, which we are happy to put on display in the museum.”
