Windham County Drug Take Back Day is Oct. 26

On Saturday, Oct. 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Windham County Sheriff's Department, working with the Drug Enforcement Administration and in coordination with local law enforcement agencies and prevention coalitions through Windham County, will offer Drug Take-Back Day.

This service is free and anonymous.

The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposal while educating the general public about the potential for abuse of these medications.

During the last Take-Back Day, in April 2013, Windham County residents dropped off a combined 79.6 pounds of unused and/or unwanted prescription medications at five collection sites.

Local law enforcement agencies and prevention coalitions have teamed up to provide four local permanent drop box locations, which are located at the Windham County Sheriff's Department in Newfane, and the Brattleboro, Bellows Falls, and Springfield police departments.

On Oct. 26, bring your medications for disposal to:

• Windham County Sheriff's Department, 11 Jail St., Newfane.

• Brattleboro Police Department, 230 Main St., Brattleboro.

• Bellows Falls Police Department, 170 Rockingham St., Bellows Falls.

• Vermont State Police, Brattleboro barracks, 464 Marlboro Rd., West Brattleboro.

• Dover Police Department, 246 Vermont Route 100, West Dover.
