Hospice appreciates support for Cherished Goods fundraiser

BRATTLEBORO — On Nov. 2, Brattleboro Area Hospice (BAH) presented its Cherished Goods Auction at the VFW in Brattleboro. A whole host of people came out to support this annual fundraiser and bid on a wide range of goods in both the silent and the live auction, ably done by Kit Martin.

The interest in our auction this year was piqued by specially selected, refurbished, hand-painted, and otherwise embellished mirrors complementing the many terrific items donated by our league of Hospice friends.

We thank all those who donated goods available for bidding and especially the local artists who produced the very creative mirrors: sisters Kris McDermet and Lynn Hoeft; Ron Karpius; Janet Picard and Jacqueline Perry, mother-and-daughter painters; Marta Bernbaum; Sharon Myers; Ron Demers; Lauri Richardson; Jen Wiechers; and Walter Slowinski.

Without our generous and community-minded sponsors, this event would not have been possible, so Brattleboro Area Hospice and the auction committee thank them whole-heartedly.

Also, we cannot forget all the local merchants who donated items and services to the silent auction – their generosity is deeply appreciated. We ask that the readers support our area merchants who give so much to our community. Please shop locally and don't forget to stop by the Hospice's own store, Experienced Goods.

I also want to thank a hearty committee of volunteers (and their friends and relatives on “the-evening-of”) who pulled this event together for much of the past half-year. A lot of innovative thinking, as well as hours of time, hard work, and elbow grease, helped make this event a success.

And we all want to thank the many attendees whose generosity made the event a success. We raised more than $30,000, and all proceeds directly support the hospice care and bereavement services that we provide completely free to our community.
