Jamaica library gets books, grant from CLiF

JAMAICA — The Jamaica Memorial Library announces it is the recipient of the 2013 CliF Rural Library Award. The library was one of 12 chosen from both Vermont and New Hampshire.

Children's Literacy Foundation (CliF) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to inspire a love of reading among low-income, at-risk, and rural children in communities throughout the Twin States.

Through the Rural Library Award, Jamaica Memorial Library will receive more than 150 new books to add to the children's collection.

The grant also provides Jamaica Village School with 25 new books.

CliF Executive Director Duncan McDougall will visit students at JVS Dec. 2 for a presentation on literacy. Children will be able to sign up for a library card at the event. There will be a follow-up presentation in the spring of 2014.

Librarian Victoria Duffy said in a press statement, “Jamaica Memorial Library is thrilled to have this opportunity to provide the community's youth with new books, and the support to foster a love of reading in our children.”
