Railroad to assume responsibility for maintaining Bezanson Road

ROCKINGHAM — According to Municipal Manager Willis “Chip”Stearns III, Green Mountain Railroad (GMRR) now owns all the property abutting Bezanson Road leading to its new propane depot facility, and railroad officials say it is willing to take over maintenance of the road.

In October, the Selectboard unanimously voted to change the road's designation and to direct Stearns to draft an agreement with the railroad to transfer responsibility for its upkeep.

Stearns told the Selectboard that GMRR will operate the propane facility around the clock, and since the highway department is off duty between 2 and 4 a.m. during snowstorms, it will be more convenient for the company to maintain Bezanson Road.
