Business as usual for local RadioShack stores despite corporate woes

BRATTLEBORO — The owners of RadioShack franchise stores in Brattleboro and Greenfield, Mass., say they are not affected by the company's recently announced decision to shutter 1,100 of its stores around the United States.

Ira and Shelly Brezinsky, owners of FutureLink Corp. and parent company BRW Electronics, said last week in a press release that “we want to assure the public that our business is solid and will remain open.”

BRW began as a RadioShack franchisee in Brattleboro in 1986 and acquired the Greenfield location in 2000.

“As a locally owned, family-run business affiliated with an instantly recognized, iconic brand name, our stores bring advantages to the marketplace that big box stores can't touch. Our dedicated staff of professionals, with more than 100 years of combined electronics experience, add their personal touch to every customer interaction to deliver unbeatable value,” the Brezinskys said.

“This combination helps to keep us and our communities strong,” they added.

The Brezinskys said that they are proud of their association with RadioShack “and will continue to work hard to deliver the personal attention and value our customers expect.”

In addition to selling the full complement of merchandise found in any company-owned RadioShack store, the couple's stores in Brattleboro and Greenfield carry an expanded assortment of products and services including car audio and video, an expanded array of television sets and home theater systems, and Comcast services.

RadioShack CEO Joseph Magnacca has pinned the pending closures - at up to a fifth of its nearly 5,200 U.S. stores - on the need to stay competitive in an increasingly complex environment.

He also explained the company was confident in its knowledgeable sales force: “We're really dialing up the experience in our stores and differentiating ourselves from big-box retailers,” Magnacca told analysts.
