Empty Bowls dinner benefits Deerfield Valley Food Pantry

WILMINGTON — On Saturday, March 29, an Empty Bowls dinner will offer patrons hearty soups, delicious desserts, and soul stirring music to help fill the bowls of the hungry in the Deerfield Valley.

Soups include Folly Food's delicious Clam Chowder, Dot's Restaurant's famous Tomato and Cheddar, Sandy Wirstrom's heartwarming Lentil Soup, Betty Appel's much sought after Hamburg Soup, and Irma Bartlett's iconic Clam Chowder, and the Matterhorn's amazing Pickle Soup.

Soup will be served in unique bowls to take home while supplies last. Bowls have been donated by Will Finkel, John McLeod, Karen Horton, Twin Valley High School, and Twice Blessed.

The evening's entertainment will provide a range of musical offerings, from Mozart to traditional music, string quartet to mandolin.

Musicians donating their talents include Michelle Liechti, violin; Bob Hancock, violin and viola; Gennifer Sussman, viola; Pedro Pereira, cello; Barbara Lipstadt, piano (electronic); Robin Matathias, flute; Marietta Formanek, soprano; Melissa Willis, trumpet; Rob Freeberg, trumpet; Karen Horton, French horn; Riley Goodemote, trombone and mandolin; and Sue Lemei, tuba.

All proceeds from this evening of food and fun will benefit the Deerfield Valley Food Pantry, which serves Dover, Halifax, Jacksonville, Marlboro, Readsboro, Searsburg, Whitingham, and Wilmington, and whose mission is to ensure that no one in the area goes needlessly hungry, or lacks the basics for personal care.

The pantry provides food and other items to all those who ask for assistance, and relies on donations of food items, the financial support of local churches, towns, organizations and individuals, plus an annual membership drive to make sure the shelves are never empty.
