BRATTLEBORO — Despite all the snow still on the ground, softball season is just around the corner. If you're in the Brattleboro area and want to join the fun, this calendar will get you started. All meetings are held at the Gibson-Aiken Center.
For the Brattleboro Area Men's Softball League:
• Wednesday, March 19, at 7 p.m. - Organizational meeting for managers; election of board members; overview of 2014 season.
• Wednesday, April 2, at 7 p.m. - Review of league rules, division play.
• Wednesday, April 16, from 6 to 7 p.m. - Collection of fees, rosters, and forms.
• Monday, April 28 - Start of league play at Upper Field and West River Park.
For the Brattleboro Area Co-ed Softball League:
• Wednesday, May 14, at 7 p.m. - Organizational meeting for managers; discussion of rules; overview of 2014 season.
• Wednesday, May 23, from 6 to 7 p.m. - Collection of fees, rosters, and forms.
• Friday, May 30, Start of league play at Lower Field, Upper Field, and West River Park.
The co-ed league is a first for Brattleboro. There have been co-ed tournaments on weekends for years, but this is the first time in the area we will have league play during the summer. Organizers say they have no idea how many teams will form.
All these games will be played on Friday nights and will not conflict with either the men's or women's league play. This opportunity is made possible by the development of the new softball field at the West River Park.
