Local tournament organizers will serve as judges and initiates for players who are new to tournament play. Sign-ups are encouraged but players may join on the day of the tournament. Players should bring their own deck with a list of what it includes.

The tournament is an extension of the library's perennially popular gaming programs. Gaming offers young people problem-solving skills, experience working in groups, and several forms of literacy. For more than 10 years, the library has hosted a weekly night of role-playing games for teens. The library also has a collection of tabletop games available in the library, and now hosts a weekly chess club on Thursday afternoons.
