Herrick’s Cove Wildlife Festival celebrates the Connecticut River

ROCKINGHAM — Where can you learn about barred owls and bats, see a tortoise and a wallaby, and enjoy a day outside along the beautiful Connecticut River in Rockingham?

At the Herricks Cove Wildlife Festival, of course.

For the past 15 years, people have celebrated spring and wildlife on the first Sunday in May. This year's festival, May 4, runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine. Included are nature presentations, activities, and programs featuring live animals, guided nature walks, crafts, food, workshops, and birding.

The festival gathers more than 25 outdoor, wildlife, environmental, and conservation groups from New England and beyond.

Wildlife Encounters is on hand all day with a diversity of live animals from many continents. The Southern Vermont Natural History Museum plans a day introducing visitors to local wildlife. Other presenters include Vermont Institute for Natural Science and Squam Lakes Natural Science Center.

Lindsay Bezich is returning with her Puppet Pals - lovingly crafted, giant hand puppets and marionettes. Her show will be filled with silliness, crowd participation, and unique, memorable characters for all ages.
