• Rebecca Ames of Putney has been accepted to Cornell College, a private liberal arts college located in Mount Vernon, Iowa. Ames was also awarded the Trustee PTK Scholarship.

• Alexandria Adams of Newfane was awarded a Merit Scholarship award for $15,000 from The University of Findlay (Ohio) for the 2014-15 academic year. Merit Scholarship awards are based on a student's final, cumulative high school grade point average and ACT/SAT scores. Scholarships are awarded beginning with the freshman year and are renewable for up to four years.

Transitions

• The Green Mountain Crossroads (GMC) Board of Directors has appointed HB Lozito as its new Executive Director. GMC works to strengthen the community, conversation, and identity of rural LGBTQ people in Southern Vermont and throughout the region. Lozito joins GMC with varied experience as a grassroots organizer, advocate, designer, educator, and leader in the LGBTQ community.

• Byron Earl Anderson, 78, of Winchester, N.H. Died April 25 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. Husband of the late Marcia (Buffum) Anderson for more than 52 years. Father of Nancy Ratliff and her husband, Tom, of Brattleboro. Brother of Deryl Anderson of Brattleboro. Predeceased by six sisters and five brothers. Born in Chesterfield, N.H., the son of the late Charles and Edith (Grover) Anderson, he was raised in Chesterfield, where he attended public schools. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. For many years, he was a private property manager for the Bull family in Litchfield, Conn., and later the Emory family of Fairfield, Conn. Upon his retirement, he moved to the Brattleboro area, eventually settling at Rolling Hills Village in Hinsdale, N.H. For several years he attended the former Bethel Chapel on Birge Street, currently the Whetstone Church. Memorial information: A graveside committal service with full military honors was held May 6 in Tyler Cemetery in Vernon. Arrangements were under the direction of Atamaniuk Funeral Home.

• Frances H. Baldvins, 78, of Springfield. Died April 22 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. Wife of Lewis W. Baldvins nearly 58 years. Mother of Thomas Baldvins of Amherst, N.H., Allan Baldvins of Merrimack, N.H., Catherine Lantiegne of Weare, N.H., and Cynthia Baldvins of Merrimack, N.H. Born in Bellows Falls, the daughter of the late Dwight and Doris ( Marlborough ) Hitchcock, she attended Bellows Falls schools and graduated from Bellows Falls High School. After she married in 1956, the Baldvins lived in Athens, where they made their home for several years before moving to Springfield. She was a mother and homemaker and worked for many years as the secretary for Hemingway Electric in Springfield. She was a member of the Springfield Quota Club, and a member of a quilting group in Springfield. She enjoyed quilting, cooking, camping, and her flower gardens. Memorial information: A memorial service was held April 28 at United Methodist Church in Springfield. Burial will be at a later date in Athens Valley Cemetery in Athens. Contributions may be made in her memory to Grace Cottage Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 1, Townshend, VT 05353. Arrangements are under the direction of Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.

• Gordon D. Bartlett, 72, of Brattleboro. Died April 29 at his home. Husband of Charlene Bartlett. Father of Penny Corliss and husband, John, of Winchester, N.H.; Carol Tkaczyk and her husband, Doug, of Hinsdale, N.H.; and Dawn Tinker and her husband, Ralph of Troy, N.H. Brother of Gerald Bartlett and his wife, Erna, of Greensboro, and Eugene Bartlett of Winchester. Born in Morrisville, he enjoyed motorcycle riding, watching old western movies, and working in his yard. Memorial information: A blessing will be held at Eternal Blessing Cremation Services in Guilford on May 10 at 1 p.m.

• Barbara Roy Bellville, 83, a resident at Vernon Green Nursing Home, formerly of Brattleboro. Died April 26 at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital. Wife of the late Armond Bellville for 46 years. Mother of Bruce Bellville of Hinsdale, N.H., Sharyn Bellville of Memphis, Tenn, Jennifer Ray of Beaufort, S.C., and the late Bonni Clews. Sister of William and Joseph Roy, Beverly Moore, Lorraine Lechlider, Cynthia Roy, and the late Dennis and James Roy. Born in Ashuelot, N.H., the daughter of the late Adonias and Lillian Stone Roy, she was raised and educated in Ashuelot, where she attended Thayer High School. For 20 years, she was a teacher's aide at Brattleboro Union High School. She was a devoted homemaker who enjoyed time shared with her family. She was also an avid reader. Memorial information: A graveside committal service was held April 30 at Christ Church Cemetery in Guilford, where she was laid to rest next to her husband. Donations to Vernon Advent Christian Home, 61 Greenway Drive, Vernon, VT 05354-9474. Arrangements are under the direction of the Atamaniuk Funeral Home in Brattleboro.

• Lewis F. “Clarkie” Clark, 91, of Saxtons River. Died April 25 at his home. Husband of the late Margaret Robideau, his high school sweeheart. Father of Wayne Clark of Bellows Falls; Gary Clark and his wife, Millie, of Bellows Falls; Ronnie Clark and his wife, Sandy, of Saxtons River; Michael Clark of Saxtons River; and Dana Clark of Rutland. Brother of the late Harry Clark and Bernard Clark (his best friend), and Charlene Donna. Born in Jeffersonville, the son of Lewis and Jenny Tilton Clark, he was a 1941 graduate of Enosburg Falls High School and played on the baseball team as a pitcher and outfielder. He served his country proudly during World War II in the Pacific Theater, participating in the Philippine Liberation Campaign, and the Battle of New Guinea. He was a member of American Legion Post 37 in Bellows Falls for years. He loved doing things with his family, especially at camp on Lake Carmi, hunting in Allagash, Maine, and cutting wood. He worked at various jobs, but his passion was truck driving. He drove many miles for Dairy Transport, hauling milk, Perini Corp. building I-91, and various flood control dams in the area. He also drove a few million miles for CPM and Ryegate paper companies, up and down the East Coast and west to Chicago. He retired and drove for Wilson and Lawrence and ran parts for Clark's Heavy Equipment. He especially loved working with his grandsons, Kevin and Brett Clark, on various construction projects throughout New England. Memorial information: A funeral Mass was held April 30 at St. Charles Church in Bellows Falls, with burial at the Houghtonville Cemetery. • Shirley May (Unwin) Eddy, 100, formerly of Brattleboro. Died April 29 at Vernon Green Nursing Home, where she had been a resident since November 2010. Wife of the late Howard C. Eddy for 28 years. Mother of Lucy Stacey of North Hinsdale, N.H.; Florence Parmenter and husband, Thomas, of West Brattleboro; and the late Howard Eddy Jr. and Bernice Eddy. Mother-in-law of Carol Eddy of Hinsdale, N.H. Sister of the late Donald Unwin, Carl Unwin, Stanley Unwin, Helen Cross, Anna Rogers, Catherine Wright, Eva Waite, Charlotte Jones, Etta Bombard, Constance Goums, and Phyllis “Jane” Burnett. Born in Bernardston, Mass., the daughter of the late Simon and Lucy (Tuttle) Unwin, she attended school in Grafton and Bellows Falls High School. She worked at the former American Optical Co. in Brattleboro and had been a waitress at the former Brooks House on Main Street. A devoted homemaker, she enjoyed sewing, gardening, and travel. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in West Brattleboro and had held membership in the former Pomona Grange. • Barbara Frodenberg, 82, of Brattleboro. Died Nov. 28, 2013. Wife of the late Austin E. “Rusty” Frodenberg. Mother of Michelle Frodenberg Liechti and her husband, Nicolas Liechti, of Brattleboro, and the late Simone A. Frodenberg. Sister of the late Donald, Clifford, and Lois Dunkley. Born in Salt Lake City, the daughter of the late L. Russell and Zada Dunkley, she considered her greatest achievement and joy in her life were her children. She was a lifelong learner and music lover and was happiest when involved in the artistic process. In her life, she wore many hats and lived in many countries, enjoying a full and exciting life. In her early 20s, she lived in Paris and worked at the American Embassy. When she returned to the U.S., she worked as a secretary for Harvard Law School, and eventually married. Her husband's work as a pilot took them to many parts of the world while raising their children. Over the course of her life, she successfully developed and sold many small businesses, including a bookshop/cafe, an ice cream parlor, and a gift shop that specialized in promoting local artists and artisans. When her husband died unexpectedly, she took over his mini storage business and became a representative for Community Concerts, a program of Columbia Artists Management that enabled world class musicians and ensembles to perform in small communities. A resident of Brattleboro since 1999, she continued her community orientation and lifelong volunteer work with Meals on Wheels, the Brattleboro Museum & Art Center, the Brattleboro Music Center, RSVP, and Friends of the Brooks Memorial Library. Memorial information: She encourages everyone to donate in your loved one's memories to their favorite charities, and to volunteer in your community. To quote her, “You and your community will reap the rewards.” On Friday, May 9, at 2 p.m., the public is invited to a reception at the Brooks Memorial Library in the Reception Meeting Room, second Floor, to help celebrate a retrospective of her life's art work that will show at the library through the month of May.

• Daryl Jo Iannitelli, 55, of Douglas, Mass. Died April 28 at her home. Daughter of Margaret Crafts of West Dover and the late Phillip Crafts. Mother of Jamie Iannitelli of Douglas, Mass. Sister of Douglas Crafts and his wife, Lauren, of Longmeadow, Mass., Whitney Crafts of Framingham, Mass., and Debbie Crafts of Springfield, Mass. Born in Bennington, she received her education in Hopkinton, Mass., graduating from Hopkinton High School. She enjoyed going for rides in her car and gardening. She liked listening to rock and roll music, especially Aerosmith. She was a very fashionable woman, and loved children and hot rods. She enjoyed her home and family and enjoyed following the Boston Marathon while living in Hopkinton. Memorial information: A graveside funeral service was held May 4 in the family lot in Mountain View Cemetery in West Dover. In lieu of flowers, she requested that you spend time with someone you love.

• Simmlean Blanding Jones, 93, of Bellows Falls. Died April 29. Wife of the late Lewis Jones Sr. Mother of Carrie Jones-lvey and Lewis Jones Jr. of Bellows Falls; Flossie Ruth Jones and Mary Lugenia (Walter) Brown of Bronx, N.Y.; Sara Louise (Isimeme) Ajogbor, Gloria Edwards, and Doris Helen Jones of Mt. Vernon, N.Y.; Gladys (Woodrow, Jr.) Atkinson of Brooklyn, N.Y.; Flosie (Larry) Richardson of Lugoff, S.C.; Louana (Richard) Shepard of Elgin, S.C.; and the late Kenneth Jones. • Lora Kingsbury, 54, of Stratton. Died April 24. Wife of Kenneth Otis Kingsbury. Mother of Amanda Elizabeth Valard and De'Anna Rose Case. Brother of Steven, Leo, Theodore, and Christine Kingsbury. Born in Montclair, N.J., the daughter of Leo and Joyce Valard, she spent her childhood in Connecticut and Vermont, where she met and married her husband. • Ruth Mae Potter Lamprey, 93, of Brattleboro. Died April 28. Husband of the late Gerald (Jerry) Lamprey for 55 years. Mother of Sharon Tierra and her husband, Glenn Fulop, and Faith Lamprey and her partner, Bruce Vild. Sister of Hope, Curtis, Earl, and Kenny Potter. Her long, meaningful life was one of devotion to family, service to community, and hospitality to all. The daughter of the late Henry C. and Mary E. Potter, she grew up in West Warwick, R.I. As a child, she was called “Little Willing Feet” for her willingness to run errands for elderly neighbors. She graduated from Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School and was employed at Industrial Trust Company in Providence, R.I., when she met the love of her life. During their working years, the Lampreys lived in Rhode Island, Maine, and New Jersey. After retirement, they moved to Vermont. They established My Brother's Place Restaurant in Harmonyville, where local folks and tourists alike flocked to relish her homemade soups and warm hospitality. She was a member of the Newfane Congregational Church, the Eastern Star Lodge in Jamaica, and the Newfane Garden Club. She was a longtime volunteer at Grace Cottage Hospital. • Dorothy S. “Dot” Largena, 84, of Putney. Died April 29 at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital. Wife of the late Raymond Largena, Mother of Faith Martin and her husband, Carl Mosher, and Carol A. Lynch and her husband, Laurence Jr., all of Putney. Sister of David Stockwell of Bellows Falls and the late Sherman and Edward Stockwell, June Ross, and Martha Snyder. Born in Putney, the daughter of the late Edmund D. and Rachel (Fuller) Stockwell, she was a lifelong Putney resident. She was employed for 14 years at Green Mountain Orchard, two years at the Putney Post Office, and four years at Ames Department Store until her retirement. She was a social butterfly. She enjoyed embroidering, camping, spending time outdoors, tending to her flowerbeds, assisting her son-in-law with delivering the Deerfield Valley News in the Wilmington area, and animals. At the age of 81, she took up painting at The Gathering Place; which she became very good at. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren. • Elizabeth S. “Betty” Mario, 83, of South Burlington. Died April 24 at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. Wife of the late Raymond Mario for 34 years. Mother of Ellen Mario and husband Robert Stanley of Vero Beach, Fla.; Michael and Heidi Mario of Brattleboro; Bruce and Cynthia Mario of Canaan, N.H.; Mary and Thom Richards of Monkton; and the late David Mario. Sister of the late Howard “Bud” Shequin, Jr. Born in Burlington, the daughter of Howard and Ella (Gilson) Shequin, she was a graduate of Bradford Academy and received her bachelor's degree from the University of Vermont. She taught briefly at an elementary school before having children and devoting herself to her family. She was an active volunteer in the South Burlington schools and worked for many years as a Library Aide at the Tuttle Middle School, where she also volunteered after her retirement. Her love of reading was passed on to her children and shared with many students. Until recently, she was an avid walker in her South Burlington neighborhood and at the University Mall. She was an exceptionally social person, delighting in the company of friends and expressing a sincere interest in everyone she met. She was a devoted parishioner of St. John Vianney for 60 years, and her Catholic faith was an integral part of her life. She inspired many with her patience, grace, and kindness. Her optimism and devotion were reflected in the gracious manner with which she welcomed people. Memorial information: A funeral Mass was held May 2 at St. John Vianney Roman Catholic Church in South Burlington, with burial in Resurrection Park Cemetery. Those who wish may make contributions in her memory to the South Burlington Community Library.

• John A “Tommy” Thomas Jr., 62, of West Townshend. Died April 15 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer. Husband of the late Lisa Viverito for 34 years. Partner of Brenda Shepard. Father of Jessica M. Thomas and her husband, Brian Hammond, of Worcester, Vt., and Amanda R Thomas and her boyfriend, James Wilson, of West Dover. Brother of Janice Ray of Rockland, Ind., and the late Marcia and Patty Thomas. Born in Tarpon Springs Fla., son of Ruth and John Thomas Sr., he spent his youth there until he met his soon-to-be wife and married in 1974. They moved to Vermont in 1979. Along with his wife and father in law, Paul Viverito, he operated the Wishing Well Village Bed and Breakfast and Gallery Craft woodworking business in West Townshend. He enjoyed baseball and was a coach for the Townshend elementary school girls league but his real passion and love was music. He was an accomplished and gifted guitar player, known by many in the area. Tommy played in many popular bands through the years such as Red Alert, Buffalo Brothers, and his last band, Longshot. He played and performed for people all his life and he will be missed by all he touched with his music. Memorial information: A celebration of his life took place on May 4 at the Phelps Barn Pub at the Old Tavern at Grafton Tavern with a pot luck and jam session.
