Namaya’s 100 Flowers of Peace to be displayed at SIT

BRATTLEBORO — World Learning/School for International Training hosts the display of an “Inevitability of Peace” sculpture and related banners translating a poem, “100 Flowers of Peace,” from May 13 to June 6.

The work is by artist-poet T. Namaya and the B4 Peace Team. A public opening ceremony for the works is set for May 13 at noon at the graduate building at the SIT campus on Black Mountain Road.

“Inevitability of Peace” is described as a steel pyramid 9 feet tall involving a 300-pound block of ice suspended from chains, a lit candle beneath the ice, and a peace wreath within.

Over several days, event organizers say, the candle and ambient temperature will melt the ice. Beneath the ice is a large, black pool with the words, “Inevitability of Peace.”

Surrounding the pyramid are banners translating “100 Flowers of Peace,” a poem by Namaya.

B4 Peace explains on its Facebook page that the banners have been presented at Fellowship of Reconciliation, Peace Abbey, Clearwater Festival, and at other peace centers around the world.

“We hope to inspire all to peaceful action in their everyday life with these inspiring words,” the group says.
