‘Act Out’ inaugurates new era at Hooker-Dunham

BRATTLEBORO — Actors, singers, and musicians are sharing current work as Brattleboro's Hooker-Dunham Theater presents “Act Out! - A Performers' Jam,” on Friday, June 6, at 7:30 p.m.

Shakespearean monologues, original works by local performers, stand-up comedy, and a raft of improvisational theater ranging from bizarre situations to scenes drawn from the novels of Jane Austen are on tap. A series of wonderfully talented performers will give the audience a peek into how they develop their craft by displaying their works in progress in an atmosphere of fun and exploration.

All are invited. Performance slots are available at the time of this writing, and everyone is invited to watch and enjoy.

According to Hooker-Dunham Theater Manager Jon Mack, Act Out! is designed as the best way to inaugurate the new management of the theater as a place for performers of all sorts to express their creativity - and where audiences can be assured of seeing fresh and inspired work.

To perform, write Mack at [email protected] or call the Hooker-Dunham Theater at 802-254-9276.

Call the theater to reserve your seats or buy tickets at the door. Performers and audience alike are asked to contribute $5 toward the costs of keeping the Hooker-Dunham Theater alive and kicking.

Following this potpourri of creative projects, a series of improvs will be put on by the shows' performers. A set of characters, a situation, a conflict, and off they'll go - with no one knowing where it'll end up. The improvs are open to anyone who wants to participate.

Come early and see In-Sight Photography Project's “The Best of the Best,” fine photography by top professional photographers in the Hooker-Dunham Gallery to benefit the In-Sight Scholarship Fund. Opening and reception starts at 5:30 p.m.
