BMH nutrition, cardiac rehab staff host Mediterranean dinner

BRATTLEBORO — Brattleboro Memorial Hospital hosts “Mediterranean Dining: A Healthy Approach to Living,” sponsored by its Nutrition Services Department and Cardiac Rehabilitation Program.

The event, open to the public, is Oct. 8 at 5:30 p.m. in the BMH Brew Barry Conference Center, on the ground level.

The event features a dinner of Mediterranean food and a presentation by Judy and Ed Flower, a clinical psychologist and a marriage and family therapist, respectively.

Speaking personally and professionally, they will address how chronic illness is not just an individual problem but rather one that involves the family system.

The menu includes mixed greens salad with homemade maple vinaigrette; whole-wheat rolls; poached chicken breast with lemon zest, chives, and fresh herbs; couscous with roasted local vegetables; a vegetarian option of braised autumn vegetables and crispy tofu; and a homemade, whole-grain banana walnut cake.

The BMH Nutrition Services Department notes it is committed to providing local, nutritious, and sustainable food for patients, visitors, and staff.

The hospital's Cardiac Rehabilitation Program, nationally certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation, is designed for people recovering from heart attacks, heart surgery, angioplasty/stenting, and continued angina symptoms.
