Fall foliage exhibit in Wardsboro features fine art, crafts, antiques

WARDSBORO — An exhibit and sale of fine art, crafts, and antiques is open in October every day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Green Barn on Route 100.

The barn, across the road from the Bittersweet Café and Bakery and the Wardsboro Country Store, shares its parking with the Wardsboro Post Office.

Event sponsor Friends of the Wardsboro Library has been an ardent promoter of local artists since the nonprofit formed in 2001. The annual July 4th Art Show and Sale and the Artist of the Month exhibit, both at the Wardsboro Public Library on Main Street, support and promote the area's arts.

In this latest effort, an eclectic group of artists and collectors from Wardsboro and Stratton were invited to participate in the Fall Foliage Exhibit and Sale.

The barn, formerly an antique shop, was purchased and remodeled a few years ago but sat vacant while organizers waited for what they said was the right tenant.

Friends board members Christel Holden and Cris Tarnay from Wardsboro said they considered opening an exhibit in the barn during foliage season. They report they're enthused by the positive response of participating artists and collectors - and customers - since they opened in early September.

Wardsboro resident and potter Will Finkel also has been instrumental in contacting artists and organizing the exhibit, in which he also has wares.

On most days, Holden reportedly can be found at the Green Barn shop and is quick to give customers an additional glimpse about the artists and their work on display.

“It's more than a sale; it's a chance for the public to see and get to know the talent we have living among us,” she said.

This sale and exhibit benefit Friends of the Wardsboro Library for the support of the Gloria Danforth Memorial Building, the home of the Wardsboro Public Library.
