Cherished Goods auction to benefit Hospice is Oct. 25

BRATTLEBORO — Brattleboro Area Hospice is once again presenting the annual Cherished Goods auction, this year on Saturday, Oct. 25 at the VFW on Black Mountain Road.

Proceeds support the hospice care and bereavement services that are provided free of charge in the community by Brattleboro Area Hospice.

Much like last year's eclectic choices, this year's auction features many pieces of furniture, works of art, jewelry, and other items of interest, all of which will be available for auction just in time for holiday gifts.

The event starts at 5 p.m. with the serving of hors d'oeuvres and cocktails (cash bar) and a preview of items featured in the live auction (which starts at 6).

During this time and throughout the evening, guests are encouraged to bid on the many interesting items in the silent auction, which include gifts, getaways, and services donated in most cases by local businesses and supporters.

The silent auction articles range in value, so there is something for every budget.

The live auction with Kit Martin features high-quality antique furniture, furniture in good condition, jewelry, paintings, china, glassware, and decorative items such as an antique, hand-painted fan in original box from Casa de Diego, Puerta del Sol, Madrid; a lovely 1930s dining room sideboard; a small, antique oak desk with glass-fronted bookcase; and a beautiful, hand-carved side chair from Bermuda with French silk cover in the English style (and once sat on by a famous Tibetan monk).

There are also stays at interesting places and an African photographic safari up for bid. Many other unique offerings are being acquired. For a current list of items, many with photos, visit www.brattleborohospice.org
