NEYT presents 'Singing Through the Seasons: Songs of Farming and Life'€™

BRATTLEBORO — Jay Bailey and friends present “Singing Through the Seasons: Songs of Farming and Life” on Saturday, Jan. 17, at 7 p.m. at New England Youth Theater.

The concert is a benefit for NEYT's scholarship fund, Angels in the Wings. Admission is by free-will donation; refreshments are available at intermission.

Jay and Janet Bailey have been the farmers at Fair Winds Farm in Brattleboro for more than 35 years. During his work as a farmer, Jay has honed a unique repertoire of songs that deeply reflect the rhythms of farm and country life. His singing and fiddle playing are direct expressions of his love for the land and for the seasonal changes that determine the yearly progression of tasks that are essential to farming.

The program will be of interest to those who love traditional music, local history, and our agricultural heritage. The songs, tunes and recollections will cover such topics as the changing seasons, working with horses, stone walls, haying, and the beauty of living out of doors and close to the land in New England.

Bring your voices. Songs will be accompanied on guitar, fiddle, accordion, and vocal harmonies as Jay is joined by Reuben Bailey, Erica and Jason Breen, Andy Davis, Louisa Engle, Dan MacArthur, Mayah Murchison, and Amanda Whitman.
