Time running out to submit candidate petitions for town election

ROCKINGHAM — Prospective candidates have less than two weeks to gather signatures for a spot on the March 3 election ballot.

Town Clerk Doreen Aldrich says that Monday, Jan. 26, at 5 p.m. is the deadline for filing nomination petitions. Candidates need a minimum of 30 signatures to have a valid nomination petition.

Aldrich says the last day to file an article petition for the March 2 Annual Town Meeting warning is Tuesday, Jan. 20, at 4:30 p.m. A minimum of 175 signatures from Rockingham registered voters is required.

Three seats on the Selectboard are among the positions available in the March 3 election: the three-year seat currently held by Joshua Hearne and the two one-year seats now held by Susan Hammond and Thomas MacPhee.

Three Rockingham School Director positions are also available: a pair of two-year seats held by Sherry Arvin and Margo Ghia, and a three-year seat held by Kate Coburn.

A pair of two-year seats on the Bellows Falls Union High School Board, held by Matthew Guild and Kristen Swartwout, are on the ballot.

Four slots for the Rockingham Free Public Library Trustees are also on the ballot: three three-year seats held by Hope Brissette, Carolyn Frisa, and Janice Mitchell-Love, and a one-year seat held by incumbent Karin Fischer.

One-year positions for Town Moderator and Town School Moderator (currently held by Michael Harty), Grand Juror (currently held by George Kuusela), and Town Agent (now held by L. Raymond Massucco) will be on the ballot, as well as three-year positions for Lister (now held by Camilla Roberts), Trustee of Public Funds (currently held by Matthew Guild), and Trustee of the Campbell Fund (now held by Doreen Aldrich).

The annual Bellows Falls Union High School District meeting will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 25, at 7 p.m. at the high school in Westminster.

Annual Town Meeting is at the Bellows Falls Opera House on Monday, March 2, at 7 p.m. Voting for town officers is March 3 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Masonic Temple, 66 Westminster St.

The deadline to register to vote in the 2015 Rockingham Town and Rockingham Town School Annual Meeting is Wednesday, Feb. 25, at 5 p.m. The deadline to register to vote for the Bellows Falls Union High School is Wednesday, Feb. 18, at 5 p.m.
