BRATTLEBORO — Oak Meadow, a local provider of secular, progressive, experiential homeschooling curriculum for K-12, has teamed up with several Brattleboro-area organizations to make arts education more accessible to local homeschooling families.
With Oak Meadow's support, special classes for homeschoolers and/or discounts for homeschoolers are being offered by the following local organizations. Contact each directly for more information and registration.
• NECCA (New England Center for Circus Arts) (802-254-9780, [email protected]): Students learn group pyramids, solo tumbling, aerial skills, and juggling while learning how to work together, stay strong, and have physical confidence. Wednesdays, 10 to 11 a.m. and 11 a.m. to noon, Fridays 1 to 3 p.m.; ages 5-16. For more information visit necenterforcircusarts.org.
• River Gallery School of Art (802-257-1577, [email protected]): RGS offers art classes for all ages in a studio environment with instruction in drawing, painting, sculpture, and mono-printing as well as multi-media techniques. • NEYT (New England Youth Theater) (802-246-6398, ext. 101, [email protected]): Learn theater basics through Shakespeare's comedies, clowns, and fools through a just-for-homeschoolers class with a true-to-text exploration of voice, breath, staging, escalation, and other comedic/dramatic skills. •In-Sight Photography (802-251-9960, [email protected]): Thursdays, 1 to 3 p.m., starting Feb. 4. A black-and-white film photography class for homeschoolers offers beginners the basics of film developing, darkroom printing, and 35mm camera operation; students with more experience will be able to explore advanced techniques in composition, lighting, and darkroom printing.
