Creating food on the fly

BRATTLEBORO — In the Morningside cooking class, kids learned how to follow a recipe as well as preparing food by following their senses.

The popular salad dressing from last Wednesday night followed the taste buds approach.

“Admittedly, we didn't use a recipe for the salad dressing for last Wednesday's Morningside family dinner,” Senni wrote in an email. “Sometimes we can be rigid with recipes in class, and other times we just use our senses to create things.”

“So here, more or less, is what we did,” wrote Senni.

Morningside Kid's Dinner Party Salad Dressing:

1. In a small ball jar, add equal amounts of olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

2. Then add a squirt of honey, a bit of toasted sesame oil, some soy sauce, and crushed garlic.

3. Shake vigorously and taste.

4. Adjust flavors to your liking.
